VironViina – For clarity and transparency

VironViina was founded in 2014 to offer customers the opportunity to purchase alcoholic beverages openly, responsibly, and in accordance with the principles of the European Union's internal market.

Our operations garnered widespread attention at the time. Our model was thoroughly evaluated by authorities and courts, a process that lasted almost a decade. This was not just about a single online store, but a broader question: where and when does the sale take place, and who is responsible for what.

At the conclusion of the process, the Supreme Court of Finland (Docket No. R2023/285) ruled that our operations were based on a lawful structure, where the sale and transfer of ownership occurred in the country of origin, not in Finland. The decision clarified the legal situation – not just for us, but for the entire industry. The significance of the ruling extended beyond the individual case. The Supreme Court's position was later also utilized by the Finnish government in the reform of alcohol legislation.

Following this ruling, we have updated our online store and operations to reflect the current situation, without altering the core that was previously deemed lawful.
